The travel in Peru always starts from Lima. The Lima airport is modern
and well arranged. (By the way it is as far as we know the only airport
with chapel!) The taxi to Lima is about 17 US $.
Lima has a nice and attractive centre with old buildings from colonial
times. It was declared a WorldHeritage by UNESCO. In the colonial
centre you can feel save because many tourist polices are around, but,
nevertheless, you have to take care. And don´t go over the bridge
Puente de Piedra to quarter Rimac, an extremely dangerous area for
tourists. From the Placa Mayor to Placa San Martin runs the
Jirón de la Unión, a interesting pedestrian area
with
attractive shops and pretty houses. An acceptable hotel in the centre
close to place San Martin: Continental Hotel Lima, cheap. Near by
(one bloc) an excellent super market: Metro.
Very recommended are the museums, especially Peru´s Gold Museum (Museo
oro del Perú) in quarter Monterrico (taxi from centre about
35
Nuevo Sole) and Museo Rafael Larco Herrera (in this excellent museum is
allowed to take photos!!!) in quarter Pueblo Libre.
Miraflores is the “finer” part of Lima, in this
quarter are
the embassies and the international companies, of course here all is
more expensive than in other quarters. Here are also the beaches. A
shopping and recreation centre at the shore side is Larcomar with nice
view over the sea shore. Miraflores is a modern city as you can find
everywhere, so not typical Peruvian but more international.
Nevertheless it has some nice areas and good hotels and good
restaurants.
Miraflores: Hotel Larcomar View (info@larcomarview.com) good quality,
internet. One bloc to Larcomar and the main shopping street Av. Larco.
A hotel relatively near to the airport is
Manhattan Inn:
good quality, but because it is situated far from any places of
touristic attractions it is best only overnights for connection flights.
